Good Friday parade

A drunken man is close to God say Quiche Indians in Guatemala, where Easter week leaves streets littered with drunks. In prehispanic times, Mayan priests were in control of liquor, which was dispensed on religious holidays. In parts of rural Guatemala today Catholicism and traditional Mayan beliefs become blended into religious brotherhoods which sell beer and rum across quasi catholic altars, to be downed on the spot as a sort of communion.
