A peasant population roughly equivalent to 50% of the U.S. population is on the move throughout China, in search of jobs and a better life. This mang liu or "blind flow" is changing the face of the country. Dependent on cheap labor, China's industrial complex welcomes, exploits, and fears these mostly illiterate peasants. If all goes well, this influx will not result in chaotic social conflicts but fuel China's economic growth.
