El Rincon
An altar in honor of one of Cuba's most important Saints, San Lazaro. Millions of Cubans are involved in African-based religions. The main one is Santeria which syncretizes Yoruba and Catholic rituals with St. Lazaro representing the orisha deity Babalu-Aye. On St. Lazaro's day, December 17, tens of thousands of Cubans, both Catholics and Santeria-followers, make a pilgrimage to El Rincon on the outskirts of Havana. |
