Wedding Season

Pico Iyer noticed that, all over Bombay during the wedding season, "society weddings were in full flood, with huge pavilions of orange garlands, the trees aglitter with fairy lights, and women in gold brocade saris padding out from under lighted tents. (Such occasion, an uncle of mine told me at a cousin's nuptials, were increasingly like international cricket matches: They lasted five days, were full of antiquated ceremony, and generally ended in a tie.)"
